Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the clergy with distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. This ministry is open to fully initiated parishioners who are at least 16 years of age and who regularly share in the Eucharist. Extraordinary ministers embody a mature Christian lifestyle of faith and charity, devotion and morality, service and stability, and live in ways that reflect their love for the Eucharist, their love for Our Lord, Jesus Christ, and their desire to serve Christ in others.
Volunteers in this ministry have the privilege of offering Christ’s Body and Blood to their fellow parishioners here at Saint Pius X which affords them the opportunity to come to know many more members of our parish family through a deeper involvement in the Mass.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priests with the distribution of the Body of Christ to those who are sick, homebound and unable to come to the church for sacraments. Homebound parishioners are still an integral part of our parish and are in communion with us, even though they are not physically present at the Eucharist.
Because Saint Pius X takes seriously our baptismal call to care for the sick, we work to provide comprehensive ministry to the sick, the homebound and their families. Helping the homebound feel that they continue to be part of the Body of Christ and remain in communion with us is an important part of this ministry.
Saint Pius X parishioners visit area nursing homes and assisted living facilities in order to bring Christ to our sisters and brothers who cannot join us at the parish. Volunteers lead weekly prayer services with Communion to the homebound.
