To be involved in this ministry requires a servant’s heart and a willingness to reflect Christ’s love to others. We are inspired by the Beatitudes as well as Christ’s own words: The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:40)
How the Ministry Works:
We provide a home cooked meal to Hope residents and other area homeless once every other month (typically February, April, August, October, December)
Members of the ministry are given the opportunity to participate in an upcoming meal service one month in advance via email – reminder follow up emails ensue.
There are various commitments within this ministry:
Provide a dish (salad, side dish, dessert) enough to feed at least 12.
Help serve the meal at Hope Ministries on the evening of the SPX meal (5:30 to 7:30 p.m.).
Time commitment ranges from 1- 3 hours depending on the dish you choose.
Expectations:
The basic expectation for this ministry would be for a volunteer to be available to provide, at minimum, a dish to feed at least 12 people two or three times per year and/or to serve the meal at least once a year.
Cooking the main entrée rests upon a “core group” of volunteers and is not a “requirement” of this ministry but is available as an option for those who feel “called” to do it.
This ministry is VERY flexible with regard to time commitment and is a “no-meetings-required” ministry.
This ministry is a beautiful opportunity for families to serve together – making a dish that will be served to our area’s homeless population is a wonderful way to share our faith. Picking a “family favorite recipe” to make together and share with an open heart to the less fortunate brings our families grace and shows God’s love to the world.
