“I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat” ~ Matthew 25:35
Hope Ministries, located at 432 S. Lafayette Blvd. in downtown South Bend, has been sheltering, feeding and ministering to our area’s homeless population since 1954. They currently provide housing for 18 families (including single mothers/single fathers with children and married families), 16 single women and 40 single men. They also operate a community kitchen ~ that’s where we come in ~ where nearly 300 meals are served every day.
Saint Pius X has partnered with Hope Ministries for many years. Six times a year, volunteers from Saint Pius X plan, shop, prepare and serve a dinner at Hope. A main entrée is prepared by Saint Pius X volunteers on our assigned day at Hope’s beautiful, new commercial kitchen. Side dishes, salads and desserts are prepared in our volunteers’ homes and transported from Saint Pius X to Hope in time for dinners. Our volunteers cheerfully serve the dinner to the Hope families and other area homeless. Our average meal serves 150 people, so we minister to almost 1000 people each year.
