Lectors proclaim the Word of God as a living dialogue that allows the assembly to hear and respond to God’s presence among us at Sunday Mass and other liturgies.
Volunteers wishing to become Lectors are asked to attend an initial training session which includes practice at the Ambo.
Lectors are strongly encouraged to attend annual training or a day of reflection.
On average, lectors are scheduled two or three times per quarter, depending on Mass preference and the number of others available for the same Mass(es).
Lectors are fully-initiated parishioners who are at least 16 years of age.
Lectors should be familiar with the sacred nature of the texts proclaimed.
Every lector should possess a strong, clear speaking voice and be confident about reading aloud in public. Lectors will be trained in the specific requirements necessary for public proclamation of Sacred Scripture. They should be able to proclaim the Scriptures with conviction, clarity, and skill.
Lectors should thoroughly prepare for each assignment.
Lectors should arrive at Mass at least 15 minutes early and check in with the sacristan.
